ONLY
the Pollywog Prayer could be the chant
of the Pollywog Choir as they serenade the Shellbacks of
TOPEKA.
It is almost certain that the Pollywogs will not forget
this beautiful prayer:O King, ruler
of the Seven Seas,
I humbly approach your glorious throne groveling in my own slime and
squalor.
I am a slimy, lowly gob of nothing-ness, desiring to learn the
ways of the sea -
Teach me to be a man, 0 sovereign ruler, but have mercy lest my
spineless, gutless, unthinking form break under the strain of proof.
I am so low that I cannot reach up to tie my shoelaces,
The texture of this deck is like the seven bills of Rome.
Have mercy on this, this jellied glob of slime . . .
Mercy, mercy, mercy! |
