Volume 12, No. 2 Dec, 2001Officers:
From the PresidentThanks to Jerry Craig, Loy Nix, and Joe and Valery Nolan another great reunion has come and gone. Although, we had a smaller crowd than usual, the reunion was a great success and everyone had a great time. It was great to see Ron Smart back to his old self after his surgery. Our hosts did a great job of keeping everything humming and on schedule. As each reunion comes and goes they seem to get better each time. I don't think it really matters where we have them, it's that great group of Topeka families that make each one a little better than the last one. It was over 12 years ago that Don Nellis and Jim Ownby sat down to lunch and decided to get some old shipmates together to see if there was any interest in putting together a reunion. Well, they got their answer. A great family has grown as a result of their efforts, and to them we all say "thanks" So now we all look forward to Denver, Colorado and another great reunion. Dudley and Ruth Cass have arranged a package deal of $99 for two people, which includes two nights at the hotel and tickets to the show, "Spirit of Ireland Dancers." This show is similar to the River Dancers. If you are not staying at the hotel, you can get show tickets separately. If you don't want the package deal, Riverside room rates are $25 for standard room and $35 for a view of the river. When making reservations for the package, including the show, ask for the "Ruth Cass" table. Call the Riverside at 800-227-3849. This has proven to be a fun weekend for several years. Happy Hour is held daily in the Cass room (BYOB) and in most years 10-15 Topeka sailors show up. Contact Dudley and Ruth for more information. New Members (Since July)
Valarie Nolan (a dues paid Spouse), Cumming, GA New Bylaws and Board ApprovedIn September, proposed new bylaws and ballots were mailed to 361 dues paying members authorized to vote. Two hundred and forty one ballots (66.8 [percent) were returned and included 230 votes in favor of the new bylaws. The old bylaws required a 2/3 vote to change or repeal. This means the proposed new bylaws have been adopted by the members whose dues were paid up as of August 22, 2001. This cleared the way for election of a new Board of Directors at the Atlanta General Meeting. New members elected include Dudley Cass, chairman, Don Anderson, Jack Connery, Jerry Judge, Don Anderson, Ken Noble and Jerry Pennington. John Reynolds will continue to serve as president of the Association and Secretary-Treasurer will be Jack Timmons. |
