Association ElectionsIn accordance with the bylaws, the membership will vote to elect association board members at the annual reunion business meeting. The Board then selects the President and Secretary/Treasurer. Board incumbents are nominated for re-election unless they have previously notified the Chairman of the Board they decline to serve. Association members may be nominated to fill any vacancies occurring. Current members of the Board are: Don Anderson, Dudley Cass (Chairman), Jack Connery, Jerry Judge, Ken Noble, and Jerry Pennington. The Board elects the Chairman. The Board this year will select a new Chairman as Dudley Cass has declined to continue as Chairman. The President and Secretary/Treasurer are selected in the same manner. They are reappointed by the Board to their respective offices unless they decline to continue, or the if the Board decides there should be replacement(s). Vacancy in either office will be filled by the Board. Topeka’s Last Visit to PortlandThe last time Topeka visited Portland was in the summer of 1965, not too long before we deployed to Vietnam. It was an exciting trip up the Pacific Coast. We had two real “man overboard” evolutions - - one a dare, the other an actual accident. All that training paid off as we recovered both. We had a good time in Portland. The city welcomed us. Some remember that we were parked right next to a brewery. That made it convenient. Portland was a great liberty port. Leaving Portland, we carried a deceased Oregon Naval Reservist for burial
at sea, our first experience with that evolution. Many will remember that
event.
Now we return again, after 38 years, to celebrate the 14th anniversary of our reunion association. Come gather with us and those of us who were there will tell you about that visit. Driving to Portland? Go to the reunion hotel’s website www.portlandlloydcenter.doubletree.com. Click on “local maps” and you can get driving directions and maps to get you there from your doorstep. Driving an RV? Go to www.Oregon.com and find a list of RV parks along the way. |
