4. Treasurers Report as of August 12, 2005
The detailed financial reports are not made public. We are solvent.
We have already paid a $2000 deposit to the hotel. We have paid $1,051.43 to
stock the hospitality suite. The tours company Briggs has been paid $8,400
for the three bus tours. Cloud Nine Harbor Dinner Cruise Company has been
paid $5,700.91. Also we had to pay $1,100 for liability insurance for this
reunion. So remaining to be paid are the small added charges for the Dinner
Cruise, and the two meals at the hotel. We are very close to breaking even
on this reunion.
Ships store report: Linda Roberts says due to Ike Robert’s severe cancer,
Linda will ask to be replaced as the ship’s Store Operator after his death.
Ships Store financial report is not made public, we are solvent.
6. Old business:
1. Baka Hachi: $200 collected for the New Baka Hachi book has been refunded.
2. Topeka Deck Planking. The Secretary/Treasurer has been in contact with
the Ship History
Section of the Naval Historical Society. They are getting out of the
business of issuing pieces
Ship’s deck planking to plankowners. It is Jack’s intention to have them
ship those 60 + pieces of Topeka Deck Planking to Jerry Judge who says he
has space for those materials. (That has been accomplished; Jerry has the
wood as of October 2005.) That wood is only available to Topeka Plankowners.
The Navy Historical Society has provided us a list of all the Topekamen who
have received Topeka Deck Pieces.
7. Correspondence:
A. The Navy Home Gulfport has acknowledged receipt of the $310 we sent them
last year.
We will send them a check for $365 this year.
8. New Business:
A. Election of Directors: Jerry Judge, Dudley Cass, Ken Noble, Don Anderson,
Jack Connery, and Tom Victory ran unopposed and were reelected by
acclimation.
B. Officers John Reynolds, President and Jack Timmons Secretary/Treasurer
will continue.
It is Jack Timmons intention to resign after the work is completed on the
2006 San Diego Reunion.
C. Reunion 2006 is scheduled in San Diego. Ruth Cass has arranged for the
reunion headquarters and hotel to be the Town and Country Resort and
Convention Center on Wednesday, August 16 Through Saturday, August-19, 2006,
this is the same hotel we used in 2000. We get a complementary hospitality
suite in the Regency Towers. Hotel rates will be $99 per night plus tax. The
contract has been signed. We will get a break on parking rates. Ruth and
Dudley will come up with more fine tours. San Diego is a Navy Town and there
are lots of things to do.
D. Presentations for Reunion 2007- A Midwest Reunion.
1. On behalf on Cal & Joan Ladd-Jack Timmons presented Twin Cities and Mall
of America. Cal had provided some six pages of information, great prices, a
listing of several hotels and several great tours.
2. Dan Moore presented Indianapolis. Dan gave an enthusiastic presentation,
had lots of information from the visitor and convention bureau. Good prices
and good tours. No harbor dinner cruises in Indianapolis.
A Voice vote was taken, and Dan Moore and Indianapolis won for 2007.
E. Discussion on the timing of reunions ensued. Several members proposed we
have the reunions in the fall or spring, summers are hot and crowded. Joan
Anderson stated it depends on where the reunion is; Portland and Seattle are
nice in the summer.
Jim Bennett made a motion that we consider the location and the timing of
reunions, that it might be preferable to have reunions at a time other than
August for sites where the heat is oppressive in August. That date can be
set the year before the reunion. The motion carried.
Dan Moore agreed to see if alternate later dates can be done for
Indianapolis.
9. The 2008 Reunion will be on the East Coast again. Wes King volunteered to
present Baltimore and Matt Fitzpatrick said he was interested in helping for
Baltimore.
10. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM.
Sincerely,
Jack E. Timmons
